What this docket is about

Engineered-stone (also called artificial stone or quartz countertop) contains 90% or more crystalline silica. Cutting, grinding, polishing, or installing this material without proper ventilation and respiratory protection releases respirable crystalline silica dust. Inhalation causes silicosis, an irreversible scarring of the lung tissue that progresses to severe disability and death. Cases have surged among countertop fabrication workers since 2018.

Who may qualify

  • Have been diagnosed with silicosis, accelerated silicosis, progressive massive fibrosis, or related lung disease
  • Diagnosis is recent, or you experience persistent shortness of breath, cough, or fatigue and have not been evaluated
